Feel Good with Paxil CR
Paxil CR is a SSRI, which is an abbreviated way of saying it’s a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor, generally prescribed to make people feel good. It helps your brain handle its serotonin levels, when the usual balance has been upset due to disease, drugs or other causes. Serotonin is important because its job is to send messages to the brain that tell you something feels good. When it doesn’t process right, you can go between extreme mood swings, though the most frequent result is simply depression.
Paxil CR basically allows your brain to absorb serotonin more slowly so that it lasts longer and has more opportunities to get the message through to your brain – “hey, be a little happy.” It does this by blocking the reuptake of serotonin (as the name might suggest).
Paxil CR tablets are programmed to work slowly. Little by little, some of the drug is introduced into your system so that it keeps working for a long time and in equal amounts. This helps prevent you from shifting between feeling very good and very bad. It has also been suggested that the slow release form helps reduce the severity and frequency of side effects as compared to regular Paxil. Still, there are not a lot of studies surrounding these suggestions. Side effects that have been reported include not having much of an appetite (making weight loss a kind of secondary side effect). While the idea of losing weight sounds like a good thing to many people, your doctor should monitor your health in case you become too skinny or lose weight too fast.
